Event Description:
GUEST SPEAKER: Elizabeth Stone, PhD, San Mateo County Arts Commissioner
The business and civic community is invited to partner with the County of San Mateo Arts Commission on our exciting project to inspire arts leaders to respond social injustice using artistic expression as a medium for social change.
Through participation in an experiential trip to Montgomery, AL to visit Civil Rights memorials, museums, and arts organizations, and meetings with “foot soldiers” and community leaders, along with participation in facilitator-led County Community Conversations, we will gain a better understanding of the Civil Rights movement.
Business leaders in San Mateo County are invited to participate in the trip and Community Conversations and to sponsor additional community members, speakers, and other programing needs.
Proposed timeline:
· September 2020: Call for participants, application opens, business partners solicited as sponsors and participants.
· October 2020: Participants Selected
· November 2020: First Community Conversation
· December 2020: Second Community Conversation
· January 2021: Proposed 3 night/4-day trip to Montgomery, AL
· (If travel is not viable, some trip speakers will be brought in by Zoom and trip will be rescheduled when travel is safe).
· Post-Trip meetings/Grants process begins
· April 2021: Community celebration with grantees and stakeholders
· May 2021 – September 2021: Artistic development
· 2021-2022 – Artistic Productions/Outreach occurring throughout the year.
